A week of magic — Karen Soltero
The Spannocchia Writer’s Workshop was founded by best-selling author Ann Hood in 2011. The workshop is a rare opportunity for a small group of writers to immerse themselves in their craft while experiencing the food, wine and history of Tenuta di Spannocchia — a traditional Tuscan agricultural estate established in the 12th century.
The estate was owned and operated by the Spannocchi family until 1925, when it was purchased by Italian writer Delfino Cinelli. Spannocchia became Cinelli’s writing retreat. Cinelli authored the novel The Castle That Only God Knows.
Today, Spannocchia is a model of sustainable agriculture, run by CInelli’s grandaughter, Francesca, and her husband, Randall Stratton. Spannocchia also attracts travelers and hosts workshops for artists and musicians. Ann Hood discovered Spannocchia while on assignment for Bon Appetit magazine.
